January 4, 2015.

Sunday, the once traditional day for Christian cultures to give thanks and rest.

Personally, I think Sunday is a great day to rest and perhaps it is not such a bad idea either, to take a brief moment to reflect and digest all of the volatile moving pieces of life swirling around us.

Every Sunday in 2014 I had time to think about what I was facing, and with every Sunday yet to come, I will have to reflect not only what I experienced, what we as a family were able to survive, but also wonder how many other people face inconceivable situations in the hands of others.  Thousands of Sundays have passed since time was measured by days,  and Sunday remains a terrible reminder that in the thousands of years of human history that have been lived with wars and oppression, greed and avarice, sloth and gluttony, not one religion has cured our human shortcomings.

We could all stand with some honest soul searching -- every human and every nation would benefit from some honest reflection.  It is an easy exercise to see fault in others, blame others, and execute punishment, but not such a pleasant obligation to examine the dark corners of one's own soul.
Sunday is a great day.
